Education and Career
Luca Sciacchitano holds degrees in Arts, Media and Cultural Technologies and in Modern Linguistics. He lives in Trapani, where for over twenty years he has worked in communication and education. He runs an advertising agency and is the founder of a language school. Across all his activities, attention to language, imagery and the written word has always been the guiding thread.
Books and Publications
He is the author of novels, nonfiction works and hybrid projects that combine words and images. His production ranges from civic storytelling to contemporary cultural analysis, including photographic projects and symbolic research. Among his works, Le Ombre di Nahr was a finalist at the Argentario Prize 2024.
Journalism and Public Activities
His writings have appeared in national newspapers such as Il Sole 24 Ore and La Stampa, as well as independent outlets like Pressenza and TP24. For two years, he curated the provocative column L'avvocato del diavolo, widely followed in his region and sparking significant debate in the Trapani area. He also authored a two-month investigative series on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, published by Pressenza.
Authorial Work
His authorial work is accompanied by a constant presence in the cultural and civic sphere. He has participated in several editions of Milan’s BookCity, presenting a documentary-interview on Bulimismo e decrescita and a video-interview on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that blended theatre, music, literature and journalism.
He has held numerous presentations in Italian cities including Milan, Rome, Venice, Bologna, Pisa, Lucca and Trapani.
He was among the promoters of a cultural initiative advocating for the introduction of the neologism Pelecidio into the Italian language, proposing its official recognition to the Accademia della Crusca.
Social Engagement
His commitment to the territory also takes the form of long-standing social activism. He is among the founders of several civic committees, including #SEVOLOVOTO, dedicated to protecting Trapani’s airport, and the Acqua/24 Committee. He is currently a member of Amnesty International (Trapani chapter) and continues to use writing as a tool for advocacy and the defence of rights, particularly in Sicily, where legality and justice are never taken for granted and every social achievement remains the result of struggle.
Photography and Projects
In parallel, he cultivates photography as an expressive medium. He has produced two photographic editorial works and, in 2020, curated the exhibition Alinquiete, displayed first at the Municipality of Trapani and later at the “Vincenzo Florio” Airport.
Personal Motto
His personal motto, “augebimur stillatim”, meaning “we will grow drop by drop”, expresses the philosophy that guides his human and intellectual journey.
